Fresno County Deputy District Attorney, Miiko Anderson, was presented with the 2017 Courageous Prosecutor Award at today’s Rotary Club of Fresno Annual Courageous Citizens’ Awards luncheon. Fresno County District Attorney, Lisa Smittcamp, presented the award to Miiko for bravely accepting a new challenge in her career by working in the courtroom and with community based organizations to do her part in bringing cases of human trafficking to court, getting victims off the street, and bringing predators to justice.

The District Attorney’s Office recently formed a Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit dedicated to investigating and prosecuting cases of human trafficking occurring throughout the County. This unit will be staffed by Deputy DA Anderson and District Attorney Investigators currently assigned to the Office’s Domestic Violence and Gang Units.
Deputy DA Anderson has already successfully completed several human trafficking jury trials, including Fresno County’s first human trafficking conviction which resulted in a 23 year-to-life sentence for the trafficker.
Congratulations to Deputy DA Anderson for this much deserved recognition and for her continued commitment to bringing purveyors of the heinous crimes of human trafficking to justice.
