This week the Fresno County Board of Supervisors recognized the efforts of several individuals, community groups and organizations as they work to make Fresno County a better place.

The Board has proclaimed October, 2019 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Fresno County. October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention Month; a time to celebrate survivors, honor those who have died, raise awareness, and confirm a commitment to preventing domestic violence in our communities. The Board was joined by officials from our local law enforcement community, County departments, local advocates and survivors to celebrate the work in our County being done to combat domestic violence, raise awareness, and provide much needed support for individuals and families affected.

The Board has also proclaimed November, 2019 as National Adoption Month in Fresno County, an effort to increase awareness and bring attention to the need for permanent families for children and youth in the U.S. foster care system. The need for adoptive families in Fresno County and beyond is great as children of all ages are in desperate need of permanent homes that provide stability and hope. Last year in Fresno County alone, 280 children found permanence through adoption. This year, at Fresno County’s annual Adoption Day, 52 more children will do the same as they finalize the adoption process with their permanent families. And while this is wonderful news, there remain nearly 2,300 children in our County waiting for their forever families.
